Mounir Eddib's First Dutch Solo Exhibition at Galerie Ron Mandos
Mounir Eddib, a Moroccan-Belgian painter and mixed media artist, presents his first solo exhibition in the Netherlands at Galerie Ron Mandos in Amsterdam. Titled 'Little Ghetto Boy' after a Donny Hathaway song, the show reimagines his upbringing in a working-class neighborhood of Genk, a former coal mining town in Limburg, Belgium. Drawing on bell hooks' writings, the exhibition aims to bring marginalized communities 'from margin to center,' addressing race, class, and gender in multicultural Atlantic communities. Eddib's work includes house-like sculptures, oil paintings with melted tin, and ink drawings on lead-infused paper, centering on domestic and street scenes. He co-founded the artist collective The Building / Genk while studying Fine Arts in Maastricht (2019–2024) and served as coordinator of Bonnefanten Museum's youth department (2022–2025). Recently named a 'rising star' by NRC, Eddib has won four prizes since graduation, including the Buning Brongers Prize, and had his first institutional solo 'Taliswoman' at Z33 in Hasselt. His work is in the collections of Museum Voorlinden and Bonnefanten Museum, and he has spoken at KANAL – Centre Pompidou and S.M.A.K.
