Mother Art Prize 2020 and Grant Cultura e Salute Support Women Artists

award · 2026-04-27

The Mother Art Prize, now in its third edition in 2020, is an initiative born from the Procreate Project, founded in 2013 by artist and activist Dyana Gravina alongside curator Paola Lucente. The project was recognized in 2018 by London Mayor Sadiq Khan as one of the city's most innovative civic initiatives. The prize supports artist-parents, focusing on underrepresented themes like body, identity, domestic labor, childbirth, and miscarriage. The jury includes Niamh Coghlan of Richard Saulton Gallery, Pauline Desouza of Diversity Art Forum, Eva Langret of Frieze London, Claire Mander of CoLAB, and Frances Morris of Tate Modern. Winners receive a group exhibition at Elephant West, £500 cash, and for the International Award, a two-week solo show at The Showroom in London in summer 2021 plus a one-month family residency. The 2019 edition attracted 300 artists, including 10 Italians. An Online Award offers an online exhibition and mentoring sessions. Deadline for submissions is May 13. Separately, the Fondazione Medicina a Misura di Donna, based at the S. Anna hospital, has launched Italy's first grant on culture and health. The inaugural recipient is Carla Di Grazia (born 1985), formerly of Matera 2019, who from March 1 to September will work under the tutorship of Vice President Catterina Seia to review the foundation's decade of activities and outline future developments, funded by a private donor.
