Mother arrested after young French boys abandoned in Portugal

other · 2026-05-21

In Fatima, Portuguese authorities detained a 41-year-old French woman and a 55-year-old man on charges of abuse, endangerment, and abandonment. On Tuesday, a motorist named Alexandre Quintas discovered the woman's two sons, aged four and five, alone and crying near Comporta. Although the children carried backpacks filled with food and water, they lacked any identification. Quintas brought them to a local bakery operated by a family and notified the police. Their father had reported the boys missing from Colmar, their hometown in eastern France, approximately ten days prior.
