Motelsalieri (ß): A Milanese Fashion School That Teaches Non-Creativity

Fabio Quaranta has introduced Motelsalieri (ß), an innovative fashion school located in Milan's Corvetto area that prioritizes critical thinking and collaborative practice over traditional creativity. Situated within Quaranta's Motelsalieri lab at Via Passo Pordoi 6, this initiative redefines fashion education through a community-oriented, performative approach. Rather than producing uniform professionals, ß aims to dissect and challenge the fashion industry's structures through techniques like détournement and imitation. The program features workshops (sewing, dance) offered for free or by donation, alongside public discussions with theorists and researchers, and open performances. Over a span of ten months, approximately 20 professionals engaged with clothing and the body will take part, supported by a scientific committee that includes Giovanna Silva, Federico Schott, and others. Collaborators Annamaria Ajmone, Alberto Groja, and Chiara Belardi contribute to this initiative, which fosters a dynamic, circular environment for shared residency, focusing on human experience and cultural diversity rather than mere product output.
