Mostra Ecofalante 2021 Offers Free Environmental Films and Debates on Amazon Issues

The 2021 Mostra Ecofalante runs from June 2 to 9, offering 16 films and two series for free online during Brazil's National Environment Week. The festival highlights the world premiere of 'BR Acima de Tudo,' directed by Fred Rahal Mauro, which examines the potential impacts of expanding the BR-163 highway through the Amazon rainforest toward Suriname, a project conceived during the 1964-1985 civil-military dictatorship. The series 'A Década da Destruição,' by Adrian Cowell and Vicente Rios, features six episodes documenting Amazonian reality from 1980-1990, including land conflicts and violence. Other featured filmmakers include Wolney Oliveira, Eryk Rocha, Luiz Bolognesi, Estevão Ciavatta, Belisario Franca, Victor Lopes, Christiane Torloni, Miguel Przewodowski, Fernando Segtowick, Julia Mariano, Márcio Isensee e Sá, and Daniel Junge. A parallel debate series addresses topics like the Transamazônica highway, land issues, infrastructure, and the future of the Amazon, with participants including Jorge Bodanzky, Fabiano Maciel, João Moreira Salles, Alessandra Munduruku, Danicley de Aguiar, Brenda Brito, Marcello Brito, Sônia Guajajara, Ana Cristina Barros, Suely Araújo, Simão Jatene, Ricardo Abramovay, Tatiana Schor, Eliakin Rufino, Angela Kaxuyana, and Carlos Printes. The event is supported by the Rainforest Journalism Fund of the Pulitzer Center.
