Mosley Thorold Rebuilds Victorian Townhouse Around Relocated Staircase

Mosley Thorold, an architecture studio based in London, has transformed a 2,900-square-foot Victorian townhouse in De Beauvoir Town. A key change involved moving a poorly placed staircase from a cramped ground-floor study, which became essential to the home's layout. The studio began working with the clients before they finalized their purchase, giving them insight into the property. The new staircase now provides a visual connection from the entrance to the garden, brightening the darkest areas of the home. They lowered the lower ground floor by 600 millimeters to enhance the ceiling height and space, and created a custom dining table that feels welcoming. The renovation also features reclaimed materials, a natural swimming pool, and a bespoke sauna, all reflecting a craft-focused approach inspired by Victorian design.
