Moscow's Sixth Photography Festival Blends Fashion, History, and Pinault Collection
From March to June 2009, Moscow hosted the sixth Festival Mode et Style dans la Photographie, overseen by curator Olga Sviblova. This edition strayed from its traditional fashion focus, influenced by Sviblova's involvement with the Venice Biennale and the Moscow Museum of Photography. Highlights included exhibitions dedicated to Guy Bourdin, David Lynch, and a retrospective on 60 years of Christian Dior photography. The Na Solyanke gallery presented Russian costume photography, while "Le Costume soviétique de 1951 à 1966" utilized archives from Ogoniok. "America in Color 1939-1943" showcased early Kodachrome images. German photographer Sibylle Bergemann was a significant figure, and the François Pinault collection at Garage featured works by Subodh Gupta, Paul McCarthy, and Jeff Koons, alongside a globalization section curated by Caroline Bourgeois.
