Mosart 2019: Reinventing Mosaic in Spilimbergo

The first edition of Mosart, a mosaic art festival curated by Silvana Annicchiarico, runs until September 29 in Spilimbergo, Italy. The event aims to revitalize the town's mosaic heritage through exhibitions, talks, installations, and performances. Spilimbergo, home to over 60 mosaic workshops and the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli (founded 1922), seeks to bridge traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design. Seven exhibitions include 'Il mosaico in bianco e nero' with photos from the CRAF archive, 'Polifonia' featuring Friulian mosaicists, 'Chromos 1' and 'Chromos 2' on color, 'Innesti' on mosaic and domestic objects, and 'Mosaici filatelici' with stamps. Talks feature sociologist Aldo Bonomi and graphic designer Andrea Rauch. Installations include 'Mosaic Trees' and a tribute to Marcello Nizzoli. A workshop by Stefano Giovannoni with ISIA Pordenone students and a sound performance by Lorenzo Palmeri are also scheduled. The film 'Tessere', directed by Giuseppe Carrieri and conceived by Annicchiarico with IULM University students, premieres.
