Morozov Collection of Impressionist and Modern Art Debuts Outside Russia at Fondation Louis Vuitton

exhibition · 2026-04-27

For the first time, the renowned Morozov Collection travels outside Russia, with around 200 masterpieces by 47 artists (30 French, 17 Russian) on view at Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris until February 22, 2022. The exhibition, curated by Anna Baldassari, is the second chapter of the cycle 'Icônes de l’art moderne' dedicated to major collectors, in partnership with the State Hermitage Museum, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, and the Tretyakov Gallery. The collection belonged to brothers Mikhaïl and Ivan Morozov, early 20th-century textile magnates who amassed works by Manet, Rodin, Monet, Cézanne, Van Gogh, Matisse, Picasso, and Russian artists like Répine, Vroubel, Malévitch, and Gontcharova. Their collections were seized by the Bolshevik regime in 1918 and later dispersed among the Hermitage, Pushkin, and Tretyakov museums. The exhibition includes a reconstruction of Ivan Morozov's music salon, featuring 13 panels by Maurice Denis on the Story of Psyche and four sculptures by Aristide Maillol. The show is supported by LVMH and involves high-level diplomacy, with presidents of Russia and France contributing to the catalogue. The previous Shchukin Collection exhibition at the same venue attracted 1.3 million visitors.
