Morez Hauts de Bienne inaugurates artistic footbridges by European artists including Loris Cecchini

The French town of Morez Hauts de Bienne, near Geneva, has launched a series of artistic footbridges as part of its Échappée Bienne greenway project, aiming to reconnect residents with the surrounding Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park and the Bienne River. The first phase includes three bridges: Jardin Lami Jeune by Nadine Schütz (a transparent metal grille bridge with a reflective stainless steel roof), Ǫuai Lamy by Jean-François Karst (a double elliptical metal deck with colored inclined bars referencing the town's optical history), and Quai Jobez – Orbital Promenade by Italian artist Loris Cecchini (a 13-meter cycle-pedestrian bridge in reinforced concrete supporting a cloud of stainless steel modules, designed in 2023). All bridges were realized with Bi Ingenierie, Atelier Confluence Architecture, and CentQuatre Paris. They will be inaugurated on June 20. The project also includes renaturalization of the riverbed led by the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park. Morez, once the French capital of eyewear manufacturing (19th-20th centuries), is reinventing itself through green tourism and public art.
