Morau and Lidberg Present Dystopian Visions at Oriente Occidente Festival

At the Oriente Occidente festival in Rovereto, Spain's Marcos Morau and his company La Veronal presented 'Pasionaria', a dystopian dance-theatre piece blending references from David Lynch, Kubrick, Hans Bellmer, and Oscar Schlemmer. The work explores emotional detachment and dehumanization through robotic gestures and surreal imagery. Swedish choreographer Pontus Lidberg debuted 'Siren', inspired by the Homeric myth of the sirens, addressing desire, creativity, and solitude. Lidberg, artistic director of the Danish Dance Theater, collaborated with dramaturge Adrian Silver. The piece features seven dancers, including Lidberg and Sarawanee Tanatanit, set to music by Stefan Levin and Schubert. Both works received mixed responses, with Morau's praised for its captivating thriller-like atmosphere and Lidberg's noted for conventional choreography despite intense duets.
