Moradavaga's kinetic mirrored fish installation at Mar Motto 2026

festival-fair · 2026-05-03

Moradavaga's A-L-M-A-D-R-A-V-A, a site-specific kinetic installation for the 2026 Mar Motto festival in Faro, Portugal, transforms a former beer factory near Ria Formosa Natural Park into a shimmering shoal of golden fish. The work references the almadraba tuna fishing technique of the Algarve, using hundreds of mirrored, gold-toned fragments suspended to evoke Atlantic bluefin tuna. These elements respond to sunlight, wind, and weather, creating shifting patterns of light and shadow. Reused components from Moradavaga's earlier works Sunwheel (2016) and Wishwall (2024) are incorporated, emphasizing material reuse and maritime cultural heritage. The installation serves as a visual marker at the festival entrance, guiding visitors through the industrial site.
