Moomins Take Over New York Botanical Garden for 'Flower Power' Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-05-19

The New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) hosts 'Summer of Moomin' from 23 May to 13 September 2026, featuring the first US exhibition of Tove Jansson's beloved characters. The show, titled 'Flower Power', connects the natural world of Moominvalley with floral symbols of peace and love. Highlights include a reimagined Everett Children's Adventure Garden with clue-based quests and nature crafts, plus limited-edition Moomin merchandise. The Moomins, created in 1945, have been popular in Europe but less known in the US; concurrently, 'The Moomins' Sea Adventures and Tove and the Sea' runs at the National Nordic Museum in Seattle until 6 September 2026. James and Thomas Zambra, descendants of Jansson and directors at Moomin Characters, emphasize the partnership's natural fit for introducing new audiences to Jansson's world of curiosity and nature.
