Monza's Villa Reale Hosts Witchcraft Exhibition
Following the success of the Yōkai exhibition, Chiara Spinnato and Filippo Giunti of Vertigo Syndrome present 'Stregherie' at the Belvedere of Villa Reale in Monza, under the patronage of the Comune di Monza. Curated by Luca Scarlini, the show combines scientific rigor with theatrical staging and accessible language. It explores witchcraft through ten thematic stations, including a darkened room where visitors experience a witch trial from the accused's perspective. Key works come from the Invernizzi collection in Como, featuring prints by Dürer, Hans Baldung Grien, and Goya. Later pieces include fin-de-siècle and 20th-century depictions, film posters from Alessandro Orsucci's collection, artifacts from the Museum of Witchcraft in Boscastle, Cornwall, and documents about the local 'Matta Tapina' witch from Monza's Bosco Bello during Spanish occupation. The exhibition ends with illustrations by Gloria Pizzilli. A catalog by Luca Scarlini is published by Skira.
