Monza’s Modern Architecture Gets Gold Plaques and a Digital Map
The Order of Architects of Monza (OAPPC) has installed 25 gold plaques on modernist buildings across the city as part of a three-year project called AMM Architetture Moderno Monza. Unveiled by vice president Andrea Meregalli, the plaques aim to raise public awareness of the historical and artistic value of these often-overlooked structures. A virtual map accessible via smartphone links each building to its key features. The article highlights five emblematic projects: Luigi Caccia Dominioni’s Palazzo Oxford (1963), a multifunctional complex with brown clinker towers that serve as a gateway from Milan; Ponti Fornaroli Rosselli’s former RAI Control Center (1950-54), a curvilinear building in the park near Villa Reale, now abandoned; Vittorio Faglia’s residential building on via Zanzi (1953), a rationalist block with faceted street front and beola stone entrance steps; Justus Dahinden’s San Giuseppe parish complex (1972-76), a brick ensemble with an octagonal arena and asymmetrical interior seating; and Fredi Drugman’s INA-Casa social housing on via Toscana (1957-59), featuring double-aspect apartments and a community portico. The project invites citizens and tourists to rediscover Monza’s modern architectural heritage.
