Montreal, Kazan, Philadelphia: Street Art Tributes to Cohen, Ronaldo, and Rocky

Montreal honors Leonard Cohen with a mural at 1420 Crescent St and a retrospective titled 'A Crack in Everything' at the Musée d'Art Contemporain on November 7, 2017, coinciding with the city's 375th anniversary. The exhibition, authorized by Cohen before his death, features 18 new works and contributions from 40 artists including Candice Breitz, Jenny Holzer, Tacita Dean, and Thomas Demand. Separately, artist Kevin Ledo is creating a Cohen mural on the Cooper Building on St. Laurent Blvd as part of the fifth edition of the Mural International Public Art Festival. In Kazan, Russia, artist Dmitry Chalov painted a monumental mural of Cristiano Ronaldo near the Portuguese team's hotel during the Confederations Cup, ahead of Portugal's match against Mexico on June 18. In Philadelphia, the Rocky Balboa statue has been reinstalled at the Philadelphia Museum of Art's steps after a two-month removal for another city project. The bronze statue, from the 1976 film directed by John G. Avildsen and written by Sylvester Stallone, remains a popular photo spot.
