Montreal hotel hosts exhibition on John Lennon and Yoko Ono's 1969 bed-in
The Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal has transformed its lobby into a showroom commemorating the 50th anniversary of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's second bed-in, held from May 26 to June 2, 1969. During that week, the couple stayed in bed to protest the Vietnam War, inviting journalists and friends to discuss peace. The protest also saw the recording of the iconic song "Give Peace a Chance." The exhibition, titled "Give Peace a Chance: John e Yoko’s Bed-in for Peace," features testimonies from a compilation by Joan Athey and photographs by Gerry Deiter, who documented the event for Life magazine. Admission is free, and the show runs until October 9, 2019, Lennon's birthday. Visitors are encouraged to share peace wishes on social media using hashtags #Bedin50, #Givepeaceachance, and #FairmontMoments. The first bed-in took place earlier in 1969, from March 25 to 31, at the Hilton Hotel in Amsterdam, where the couple spent their honeymoon. The Hilton chain also commemorated that event with videos on peace and solidarity featuring employee stories.
