Montoro12 Opens 150-Square-Meter Space in Brussels

Montoro12, a Roman gallery founded in 2013, has opened a new 150-square-meter exhibition space in Brussels at Rue de la Regence 67, with an additional 50 square meters for offices. The gallery, run by Ursula Hawlitschka and Massimo Micucci, debuted the space during the Bruxelles Gallery Weekend with a three-day preview, and will officially inaugurate in November 2017 with a group show of represented artists, followed by a solo exhibition of Thorsten Kirchhoff titled M.X.C.N R.D.(mexican radio) in January 2018. The move aims to increase visibility for artists like Faig Ahmed, Emmanuele De Ruvo, Larissa Sansour, Nicholas William Johnson, and Isobel Church, who already have collectors in Belgium. The gallery's Roman location, on the street from which it takes its name near Campo dei Fiori, continues operations, including the upcoming solo show Many Moons by Isobel Church opening September 20, 2017. Hawlitschka and Micucci cited the need for a more dynamic contemporary art scene than Rome currently offers, though they remain committed to the city. The Brussels space is situated in a building housing other notable galleries such as Dvir, Conradi, and Sorry We’re Closed.
