Montis Sastre Arquitectura Designs Day Center in Alaior Around a Central Courtyard
Montis Sastre Arquitectura has finalized a day center in Alaior, Menorca, accommodating 30 individuals, centered around a landscaped courtyard. This project, commissioned by the Consorcio de Recursos Sociosanitarios y Asistenciales de las Islas Baleares, is a single-story structure that employs traditional materials and passive design techniques for enhanced comfort and well-being. The courtyard facilitates natural light and airflow, serving as a visual anchor for users. Positioned between Alaior's urban landscape and traditional farmland, the building showcases load-bearing termoarcilla walls and curved ceramic vaults. Its passive design features high thermal inertia and strategically oriented rooms for optimal natural light. The project harmonizes structure, materials, and space, embodying the essence of Menorca's lifestyle. Photographs by Lluís Bort.
