Monti8 Gallery Opens New Project Space in Rome's San Lorenzo District

exhibition · 2026-04-26

Monti8, a gallery founded in Latina in late 2019, is opening a new project space in Rome's San Lorenzo district at Via dei Reti 1/A. The space will function as a project room for solo exhibitions, complementing the main gallery in Latina. The inaugural exhibition, 'Reverse Universe,' features Korean-American artist Kiwha Lee and is curated by Lorenzo Madaro. It opens on October 18, 2024, and marks Lee's European debut. The exhibition includes wall-mounted works that continue themes from a larger show in Latina, exploring intimate and reflective painting with chromatic contrasts and references to ancient Eastern traditions. Curator Lorenzo Madaro, an art history professor at Brera Academy in Milan, describes Lee's work as layers of ancient memories re-elaborated through new formal and conceptual awareness, incorporating abstraction, geometric signs, and aesthetics of textiles and ancient Eastern prints. San Lorenzo is noted for its vibrant art scene, with galleries like Matèria, Monitor, Gilda Lavia, and the Pastificio Cerere foundation.
