Montelupo Fiorentino Ceramics Exhibition Traces 800 Years of Color and Design

exhibition · 2026-05-04

The exhibition 'Di tutti i colori' in Montelupo Fiorentino, curated by Alessandro Mandolesi and Marina Vignozzi Paszkowski, presents an unprecedented survey of the local ceramic manufactory's stylistic and chromatic evolution from the 13th century to the present. The show is divided into two sections: the first explores the use of color across historical periods, from late medieval green-brown to the famous 'rosso di Montelupo' of the mature Renaissance; the second focuses on 19th- and 20th-century developments, including the revival by Raffaello Fanciullacci, 20th-century manufactories like Bitossi, Corradini, Corti, and Gianni, and post-war design trends through the 1960s and 1970s, as well as the pop and postmodern design of the 1980s. The exhibition is held across two venues. Concurrently, after 130 years, the Villa Medicea opens with 'Primavera in villa', a series of guided tours, conferences, sports events, and performances. Additionally, the 'Doppio Circuito | Cantieri d’arte, Design e Artigianato' project, curated by Matteo Zauli and initiated in autumn 2018, continues, fostering dialogue between contemporary art and manufacturing, involving artists David Casini, Claudia Losi, and Sabrina Mezzaqui.
