In its 19th iteration, Monocle has unveiled the methodology for the 2026 Quality of Life Survey. This assessment goes beyond GDP and response times, examining elements such as architecture and nightlife. To compile its rankings of the top 20 cities, Monocle utilizes information from global correspondents along with metrics on governance, security, cost of living, and cultural aspects. The 2026 survey emphasizes excitement and optimism, drawing on data from Knight Frank and the EIT Edition's Copenhagenize Index 2025 regarding cycling friendliness. Notably, no cities from the Americas (aside from Vancouver) or Africa made the list due to concerns over safety and inequality. The survey features a variety of questions and highlights responses from cities including Tokyo, Lisbon, Vienna, Seoul, Sydney, and Kyoto.
