Monitor Gallery Opens Third Space in Abruzzo Village

Monitor, an Italian mid-size gallery founded in Rome in 2003 with a focus on video art, has opened a third location in Pereto, a small village in Abruzzo. The gallery already has spaces in Manhattan (since 2017) and Lisbon. The new venue is housed in a portion of Palazzo Maccafani, next to the medieval castle. The decision follows three years of experimental exhibitions under the name Straperetana, whose third edition runs until August 11, 2019. The inaugural event is a double exhibition by painter Matteo Fato, opening in Rome on September 20 and continuing with a celebration in Pereto on September 21. The exhibition focuses on portraiture, featuring people from the contemporary art world who have been part of the gallery's journey. Co-owners Paola Capata and Delfo Durante discovered Pereto five years ago and were drawn to its unspoiled character. Capata emphasizes the importance of creating a real connection with the territory, respecting the local context. She notes that the art market has shifted toward selling images via social media, but Monitor remains committed to research and depth as a mid-size gallery. The new space aims to offer visitors a deliberate, immersive experience, encouraging travel and direct engagement with artworks and artists.
