Monitor Gallery Opens New Venue in Abruzzo Village of Pereto

exhibition · 2026-05-04

Monitor Gallery, founded by Paola Capata in 2003, inaugurated a new venue in the mountain village of Pereto, Abruzzo, on September 21, 2019, following a two-day opening that began at its Rome location on September 20. The new space, housed in the historic Palazzo Maccafani, complements the gallery's existing venues in Rome (Via Sforza Cesarini) and Lisbon. The project emerged after three years of the summer format Straperetana, through which Capata and Delfo Durante tested the area's potential. The palazzo offers two exhibition rooms, one richly frescoed, plus a third room accessed via an external courtyard, and a cistern below used as exhibition space. The inaugural show features artist Matteo Fato with a solo exhibition titled "Immagine è somiglianza (come il ritratto sia parte della pittura)," curated by Simone Ciglia. The portraits include figures such as Gilles Deleuze, Scipione, collectors Giorgio Fasol, Paride Vitale, Stefano Sciarretta, Raffaella Frascarelli, gallerist Cesare Manzo, Paola Capata and Delfo Durante, and Artribune director Massimiliano Tonelli. Capata described the move as "reclaiming the healthiest and most beautiful part of our work," emphasizing a deliberate, thoughtful visitor experience. The Pereto venue is open by appointment.
