Monitor Gallery Celebrates Painting in Rome and Pereto with Culinary Competition

Monitor Gallery has concluded Matteo Fato's solo exhibition across its Rome and Pereto spaces, and now presents a group show focused on painting. Titled "View/Openwork – a focus on painting," the exhibition is curated by artist Simone Camerlengo, founder of the project space Studio SenzaBagno in Pescara. It opens December 13 and runs until January 17. The show features works by Thomas Braida with Lisa Andreani, Matteo Fato with Simone Ciglia, Giulio Saverio Rossi with Saverio Verini, and Simone Camerlengo with Francesca Campana, among others. The project builds on the Openwork initiative that took place at SenzaBagno between April and October 2019, where artists and curators shared creative processes. Concurrently, as part of Straperetanawinter, Monitor's new Abruzzo location in Pereto hosts a culinary competition on December 15, 2019. Artists Elisabetta Benassi, Marco Raparelli, Giovanni de Cataldo, and Diego Gualandris will each create a Christmas poster for the town, displayed from December 15. They will also compete in a cooking challenge paired with curators and gallerists: Beatrice Bertini (Ex Elettrofonica) with Marco Raparelli; Sara Zanin (Z2o) with Giovanni de Cataldo; Carla Carchiaro (ADA) with Diego Gualandris; and Gabriele Gaspari (Magazzino) with Elisabetta Benassi. Dishes will be judged by a jury of about thirty cultural operators and locals. The event emphasizes community participation, a hallmark of Straperetana.
