Mònica Planes wins inaugural Oteiza–LABORAL Kutxa grant

award · 2026-06-02

Mònica Planes, an artist from Barcelona, has been awarded the inaugural Oteiza–LABORAL Kutxa grant for her initiative titled "Hacia con el brazo." The selection committee, which featured Oskia Ugarte, David Bestué, Pello Baiona, Juan Pablo Huércanos, and Miren Epalza, commended the project for encouraging a critical dialogue with the works of Jorge Oteiza through modern sculpture. Planes will be granted €9,000 and a six-month period to develop an eight-meter-long and two-meter-high frieze crafted from compressed straw, designed to engage viewers. This endeavor draws inspiration from historical friezes and explores narrative techniques in architecture. The grant, intended for artists under 40, also offers curatorial assistance and access to museum resources.
