Mónica Naranjo Uribe Wins 2020 Fundación Casa Wabi and ArtReview Residency Award
Mónica Naranjo Uribe has been named the recipient of the 2020 residency award jointly offered by Fundación Casa Wabi and ArtReview. The Bogotá-based artist was chosen via an open call for proposals that required engagement with communities near Puerto Escondido, Mexico, where Casa Wabi is situated. Her winning project will involve creating an illustrated map and five zines about Puerto Escondido and nearby towns, developed through workshops with local residents to explore how collective knowledge and personal memories shape perceptions of inhabited areas. Naranjo Uribe's practice investigates human relationships with territories, often drawing from other disciplines. She will undertake a six-week residency at Casa Wabi in spring or autumn 2021 to execute this community-focused work. A jury including artist and foundation founder Bosco Sodi, ArtReview editor-in-chief Mark Rappolt, Casa Wabi director Carla Sodi, and curator Paola Jasso selected her based on prior work quality, project potential, and regional feasibility. The announcement was made on 14 February 2020.
