Monica Carocci and Olga Gambari present Uganda project in Turin and Rome
Photographer Monica Carocci (Rome, 1966) and curator Olga Gambari present the exhibition "Uganda ‒ Ma dove lo trovate il tempo?" at Galleria Alberto Peola in Turin and Galleria Francesca Antonini in Rome. The black-and-white baryta prints document Carocci's 2017 residency with Cute Project, an association of volunteer doctors training local staff in reconstructive plastic surgery in Uganda, Congo, and Benin. Each year Cute Project invites a photographer to document its work; Carocci was selected for her digital background and artistic approach. The residency results include a double exhibition and a book published by Postmedia Books. All works and the book are sold at symbolic prices to support future Cute Project activities. Carocci developed film on-site using a changing bag on a terrace. The project also involved debunking myths about Ugandan life through social media Q&As. The exhibition runs at both galleries simultaneously.
