Monica Bonvicini's Anxiety Attack at Modern Art Oxford Examines Architecture and Subjectivity
The first solo exhibition in the UK by Monica Bonvicini, titled Anxiety Attack, took place at Modern Art Oxford from June 21 to August 17, 2003. Born in Venice in 1965 and now based in Berlin and Los Angeles, Bonvicini explores the interplay between architecture and personal experience through diverse media. The show, curated by Suzanne Cotter, critiques the sexism inherent in modernist architecture and the supposed neutrality of public spaces. Established around 1965 in a repurposed brewery, Modern Art Oxford receives support from The Arts Council of England and other organizations. Anxiety Attack showcased both new and previous works, such as Shotgun (2003), Kill Your Father (2001), and A Romance (2003). Additionally, Bonvicini was involved in the inaugural exhibition at Cincinnati’s Contemporary Art Museum.
