Monica Bolzoni's Bianca e Blu Retrospective at Galleria Nazionale in Rome

The Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna in Rome presents 'Poetica del semplice. Moda e design secondo Monica Bolzoni/Bianca e Blu', a retrospective curated by Anna Di Cesare spanning two floors. The exhibition showcases clothing, accessories, photographs, and drawings from Bolzoni's career, following her donation of her graphic archive to the museum. Bolzoni, a Milanese designer who started her fashion journey in Paris in 1970 as product and image manager for Franck Olivier, later worked as fashion coordinator for Fiorucci from 1975 to 1980, interacting with Andy Warhol and the Factory in New York and Los Angeles. She opened her first Bianca e Blu store in Milan in 1980 (BB1), followed by BB2 in 1984 for high-end tailoring, and La Sartoria in 1985 in a restored early 20th-century palazzo. In the 1990s, she collaborated with artists such as Vanessa Beecroft, Letizia Cariello, Claudia Losi, and Cesare Viel, as well as the theater group Fanny & Alexander. The exhibition highlights her blend of Nordic simplicity with conceptual sophistication, contrasting with Milan's fashion-business scene, and features her connections with figures like Miuccia Prada and Maddalena De Padova.
