Monica Biancardi's Two-Decade Photo Project on Bedouin Twins at MAN Nuoro

exhibition · 2026-04-22

The MAN museum in Nuoro, Sardinia, opens 'Il capitale che cresce' on April 24, 2026, a solo exhibition by Italian photographer Monica Biancardi (born 1972, Naples). Curated by director Chiara Gatti, the show juxtaposes Biancardi's long-term documentation of Bedouin twin sisters Sara and Sarah with seven plexiglass maps tracing Palestinian territorial fragmentation from 1917 to the present. The project, winner of the PAC – Piano per l’Arte Contemporanea 2025, originated from the museum's acquisition of eleven black-and-white photographs taken between 2009 and 2023. Over seventeen years, Biancardi used medium-format analog cameras to capture the twins' physical growth and the erosion of their freedoms in Palestine. The exhibition also includes a travel video retracing the route from East Jerusalem to the village of Hataleen, and drawings by local children depicting the sea—a nearby but inaccessible space. A talk with Gatti and Biancardi is scheduled for April 23, 2026. The show runs until June 14, 2026.
