Monia Ben Hamouda awarded 2024 VG Foundation Prize

Monia Ben Hamouda has just been named the recipient of the 2024 VG Foundation Prize, which is awarded by Museion – Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Bolzano, in collaboration with the Vordemberge-Gildewart Foundation. This prestigious award, established in 1983 following Ilse Engelina Vordemberge's wishes, grants CHF60,000 annually to a European artist under 35 for a year dedicated to artistic freedom. Born in 1991, Ben Hamouda divides her time between al-Qayrawan and Milan, where she completed her BA at Brera Academy of Fine Arts and has been a visiting professor at Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Dresden. Her art, which draws on calligraphy and shamanistic practices, explores themes of familial roots. Currently, her installations are part of the RENAISSANCE exhibition at Museion. Notable past winners include Martina-Sofie Wildberger, Diana Lelonek, Annika Kahrs, and Lawrence Lek.
