Monferrato Honors Aldo Mondino with Major Exhibition Two Decades After His Death

Twenty years after his death, the Monferrato region pays tribute to Aldo Mondino (Turin, 1938–2005) with the exhibition 'Mondinorabilia', held at La Crescentina – Laboratorio per l'Arte in Fubine Monferrato from September 21, 2025 to January 11, 2026. Curated by Marzia Capannolo in collaboration with the Archivio Mondino, the show brings together the artist's most significant works, tracing his evolution from the Arte Povera movement to a more painterly approach. The exhibition unfolds both indoors and outdoors, starting with the triptych 'Kew gardens. Ritratto di Lord e Lady Cavendish (Serra)' (2004), last publicly shown at the XIV Quadriennale di Roma on March 9, 2005, the day before Mondino's sudden death. Highlights include portraits of masters like 'Renoir' (1993), works from the 1970s dedicated to composer Erik Satie, and the painting 'Il Creativo' (1969), marking his break from Arte Povera. Three new acquisitions are presented: two carpets from 1997 and the bronze sculpture 'Iniziazione' in the garden. On October 1, 2025, the NH Collection Piazza Caprina hotel in Turin will host a photographic portrait exhibition by Fabrizio Garghetti. During the opening on September 21, the Conservatorio Antonio Vivaldi di Alessandria will perform piano pieces by Satie. La Crescentina, purchased in the mid-1980s by architect Alessandro Monteforte and Fiorella Miraglio, became a cultural association in 2020.
