Monet's Houses of Parliament series reunited for first time at Tate Britain
This autumn, Tate Britain will present 'The EY Exhibition: Impressionists in London,' the first major retrospective focusing on French Impressionists in exile, reuniting over 100 works by Monet, Pissarro, Tissot, Derain, Rodin, and others. The exhibition explores the relationship between French artists and London, where they fled during the Franco-Prussian War in 1870. A highlight is the first-ever assembly of all six canvases from Claude Monet's Houses of Parliament series, painted between autumn 1899 and 1901 from a window or terrace overlooking the Thames. The paintings, never before shown together, come from Chicago, New York, Le Havre, Paris, and Krefeld (Germany). The show also underscores the pivotal role of dealer Paul Durand-Ruel, who followed the artists to London, opened a gallery on New Bond Street, and purchased over 12,000 Impressionist works over 30 years. The exhibition runs from 2 November 2017 to 7 May 2018.
