Monet Painting Estimated at $17M Leads Christie's Durand-Ruel Sale

A Claude Monet painting, Bord des falaises à Pourville, created around 1882, is projected to sell for €11–15 million ($12.5–17.1 million) at Christie’s Paris on October 22. This artwork headlines a 62-lot auction entitled “Durand-Ruel, Generations of Vision,” showcasing pieces from the collection of Paul Durand-Ruel, a prominent Impressionism supporter. This event aligns with both Art Basel Paris week and the 100th anniversary of Monet’s passing. Featured alongside Monet are works by Renoir, Pissarro, Sisley, and Picasso. Previously, the painting belonged to collector Léon Clapusson before it was acquired by the Durand-Ruel family. The collection will be on display at Christie’s Paris from October 16–21. Additionally, Victoria Mouraux Durand-Ruel, Paul Durand-Ruel’s great-great-granddaughter, will inaugurate Mouraux Durand-Ruel Gallery in New York this September, featuring Lucien Clergue's photographs.
