Mondolfo’s Open-Air Gallery Returns with New Murals and Giacomelli Photos

The second edition of Galleria Senza Soffitto, an outdoor permanent art project in the medieval hilltop village of Mondolfo, Italy, has opened with three new murals and large-format photographs by Mario Giacomelli. The project, launched a year ago, is directed by Filippo Sorcinelli and curated by Associazione PAM – Pro Arte Mondolfo, with support from the municipal administration. The new murals include 'Leggerezza' by Jody Pinge, depicting a girl gazing at the sky with paper airplanes against an ultramarine background, inspired by Italo Calvino’s concept of lightness; 'Mezzafaccia' by Simone Travaglini (Travart), a geometric face derived from a work by Giancarlo Pucci and reminiscent of Paul Klee; and 'I tuoi occhi raccontano…', a red wall with multiple frames of eyes created by students of the Istituto Comprensivo statale E. Fermi, promoting empathy and solidarity despite pandemic distancing. These works join the existing route of historical and social memories, alongside giant reproductions of photographs by the internationally renowned Mario Giacomelli (Senigallia, 1935–2000), displayed throughout the town center. Mondolfo is recognized as one of Italy’s most beautiful villages.
