Mondes en commun 2026: Third Edition of Photography Festival at Musée Albert-Kahn

festival-fair · 2026-05-27

The third edition of the photography festival 'Mondes en commun' returns to the Musée Départemental Albert-Kahn in Boulogne-Billancourt, running until June 14, 2026. Organized in partnership with the Association des Amis du musée, the festival revisits Albert Kahn's early 20th-century 'Archives de la Planète' project through contemporary photographic works. Eleven artists present their visual inventories in the museum's garden, exploring themes of biodiversity, cultural diversity, and human geography. This year's focus country is Benin, featuring Léonce R. Agbodjélou's series 'Egungun', echoing the concurrent exhibition 'Bénin aller-retour. Regards sur le Dahomey de 1930'. Other artists include Ying Ang (Australia), Mustapha Azeroual (France), Yasmina Benabderrahmane (France), Barbara Bosworth (USA), Thierry Bouët (France), Cédric Delsaux (France), Ari Versluis & Ellie Uyttenbroek (Netherlands), Robert Voit (Germany), Ester Vonplon (Switzerland), and Laure Winants (Belgium). The selected works range from documentary to poetic, covering subjects such as ancestral Benin figures, forest fungi, a Dominican convent archive in La Garenne-Colombes, Parisian street signs, antenna trees from multiple continents, and passersby transformed into statues. A jury comprising museum representatives, the Friends association, and photography experts selected the proposals. The festival aims to reactivate Albert Kahn's legacy by demonstrating its relevance to contemporary global issues.
