Mondadori to Open Italy's Largest Bookstore in Naples' Galleria Umberto I

Mondadori has announced plans to open Italy's largest bookstore in Naples' historic Galleria Umberto I, a 19th-century iron-and-glass arcade. The Mondadori Ma Bookstore will span over 1,000 square meters with 148,000 titles, featuring a concept inspired by Japanese meditation spaces. The project follows the recent opening of Giunti Odeon in Florence, signaling major publishing groups' continued investment despite challenges facing independent bookstores. The Naples store will include an events space, coworking area, photo gallery, and wine bar, with a focus on local culture and manga. The opening is expected around Christmas 2023. The investment exceeds €1.5 million and will employ nearly 20 people. The entrepreneurial team includes Antonio Serpe, Nello and Biagio Nunziata, and Giuseppe Messina, supported by Mondadori Retail. The store aims to be the most sustainable in Italy, using exclusively recyclable wood and plastic.
