Mona Osman's Existentialist Paintings at Collezione Maramotti
Mona Osman's first solo exhibition in Italy, 'Rhizome and the Dizziness of Freedom', is on view at the Pattern Room of Collezione Maramotti in Reggio Emilia until February 16, 2020. The series, inspired by Søren Kierkegaard's concept that anxiety is the dizziness of freedom, explores how humans create structures and beliefs to mitigate the vertigo of infinite possibilities. Osman, who grew up between Budapest, Nice, London, and Bristol, presents a triptych of portraits on an external wall of the main hall, along with three large canvases and two medium-sized works, all executed in oil and mixed media on canvas. The exhibition develops a theoretical and spiritual reflection on the search for the self, juxtaposing biblical episodes with existentialist philosophy.
