Mona Hatoum Wins 2015 Hiroshima Art Prize, Exhibition Scheduled for 2017

Mona Hatoum has been awarded the 2015 Hiroshima Art Prize, marking its tenth edition. This Lebanese artist, born in Beirut in 1952 to a Palestinian family, currently works in studios located in London and Berlin. Established in 1989 in Hiroshima, Japan, this prize honors artists whose work fosters peace. Hatoum's extensive exhibition history includes participation in major events like the Venice Biennales in 1995 and 2005, Documenta XI in Kassel in 2002, and the Turner Prize exhibition in 1995. Her artworks have also been featured at the Biennale of Sydney (2006), the Istanbul Biennial (1995 and 2011), and The Fifth Moscow Biennale (2013). The award ceremony and a special exhibition are set for summer and fall 2017 at the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art. Notable past recipients include Doris Salcedo, Yoko Ono, Cai Guo-Qiang, and Shirin Neshat.
