MOMENTUM 13 Biennale in Moss Explores Resonant Ecologies Through Sound

The 13th edition of MOMENTUM, titled Between/Worlds: Resonant Ecologies, runs from June 14 to October 12, 2025, in Moss, Norway. Curated by Morten Søndergaard, the biennial features around 40 projects including installations, performances, site-specific works, concerts, and workshops across five venues: the post-industrial city of Moss, the forests of Alby, the Oslo Fjord, the volcanic island of Jeløy, and the historic buildings and Galleri F 15. The exhibition is structured into five sensory and emotional sections: Thresholds of Perception, Cross-Species Dialogues, Inorganic Resonances, Transitional Ecologies, and Resonant Assemblages. Sound is a central element, used to foster empathy across species and highlight ecological interdependencies. Notable works include HC Gilje's Alby Critters, an artificial ecosystem of speakers mimicking nature; Arendse Krabbe's We are all fish, a sound installation reflecting on the water cycle and pollution; and Louise Mackenzie's Attractor, which uses parabolic microphones to capture insect sounds transmitted from Galleri F 15 to Moss Church. The biennial questions how to bridge human and non-human divides and how sound can reshape our perception of nature.
