Momentum 12 Biennial Reveals Over 90 Participants, Curated by Tenthaus Collective
Momentum 12, the Norwegian biennial, will open on 10 June 2023 at Galleri F15 in Norway, featuring more than 90 artists, collectives, and institutions. Curated by Tenthaus, the first art collective to lead the event, the edition is titled 'Together as to gather.' Participants include Gudskul, a Jakarta-based pedagogical platform formed by collectives ruangrupa, Serrum, and Grafis Huru Hara; Scottish artist Morag Keil, known for works critiquing modern consumption; Czech collective WET, which employs graffiti, performance, and text; Zambian/Norwegian artist Germain Ngoma; Sami collective Dáiddadállu; and German artist Stephanie Lüning, recognized for public foam installations. International exhibitions from biennials in Göteborg, Helsinki, Larnaca, Seoul Mediacity, Salangen, and Tokyo will also contribute works. Tenthaus described its approach as 'polyphonic co-authorship,' emphasizing harmonic independent melodies within collective work, allowing exploration of multiple themes and artistic forms concurrently. This appointment aligns with broader artworld shifts toward new curatorial methods, notably influenced by ruangrupa's direction of Documenta 15 in 2022, which sparked controversy over antisemitic content allegations. Momentum 11 faced challenges with a curator fired weeks before opening, leading to artist withdrawals. The announcement highlights a diverse roster and innovative curation for the upcoming edition.
