MoMA PS1 to offer free admission to all visitors starting 2026

institutional · 2026-04-24

Starting January 1, 2026, MoMA PS1 in New York will waive admission fees for all guests for a period of three years, aligning with the museum's 50th anniversary. Since 2015, residents of New York have enjoyed free access. This initiative is made possible by a generous $900,000 donation from Sonya Yu, an art collector and entrepreneur from California. Collaborating with museum director Connie Butler, Yu aims to enhance community involvement and broaden access to the arts. She emphasized that offering free admission creates a relaxed environment for engaging with art and culture. As a result, MoMA PS1 will become the largest free museum in New York City.
