MOM House: Supra-Simplicities + KCCS Design Expandable Steel Grid Home on Tight Kaohsiung Site

architecture-design · 2026-08-18

In Kaohsiung, Taiwan, the MOM House, crafted by Supra-Simplicities + KCCS, replaces an existing two-story concrete structure. Surrounded by residential buildings and a school, the location experiences limited natural light but enjoys a clear view of the school's sports field. The Modularized Open Model employs a prefabricated steel system for quick construction and consists of eight modules, featuring an irregular bay for rainwater management and potential future expansion. The design incorporates environmental infrastructure within its framework. The ground level is designated for the retired mother, while the upper floors are for her adult children. The facade, finished with matte aluminum panels, allows for easy panel replacement, adapting to the family's changing needs. This project was submitted through designboom's DIY feature, with editing by Christina Vergopoulou.
