Mollino/Insides: Enoc Perez and Brigitte Schindler at Collezione Maramotti
Collezione Maramotti in Reggio Emilia presents 'Mollino/Insides,' an exhibition pairing paintings by Enoc Perez with photographs by Brigitte Schindler and Carlo Mollino. The show explores the Turin home of architect-designer-photographer Carlo Mollino (1905–1973), now the Museo Casa Mollino at via Napione. Perez's oil works, based on 2019 photographs, solarize the interior's essence; one detail references Man Ray's 'Tears' (1930–32). Schindler's cotton-print photos, three years in the making, achieve a painterly tactility. Curator Sara Piccinini notes the exhibition originated from Perez's first interior painting entering the permanent collection. Mollino's home, conceived as an Egyptian tomb, contains symbols of death and rebirth—butterflies, shells, animalier paper—and remains enigmatic as he left no written documents. Director Fulvio Ferrari, who has studied the house for over twenty years, interprets it as a preparation for the afterlife. Schindler describes working alone at night, exploring the space's mystery and creating unique prints that capture time's traces on mirrors. The exhibition includes Mollino's polaroids of women, which he never signed or exhibited, likely considering them studies of beauty rather than art.
