Mohammad Sabaaneh's Graphic Memoir Chronicles Palestinian Prison Experience

In October 2023, Mohammad Sabaaneh, the chief cartoonist for Al-Hayat al-Jadida and the Middle East representative for Cartoonists Rights Network International, published a graphic memoir entitled 'Welcome to Hell: From the West Bank to Gaza.' This work chronicles his experiences returning to Gaza following the attacks on October 7, highlighting issues of displacement and hunger. Sabaaneh, who previously authored 'Power Born of Dreams' and received the Palestine Book Award, is currently facing threats and censorship from Israeli authorities, as well as restrictions imposed by the Palestinian Authority and Hamas. The recent conflict in Gaza has resulted in the deaths of over 260 Palestinian journalists. He draws parallels between the conditions of Palestinian prisoners and Nazi camps, mentioning Ilan Pappé, who wrote the foreword for his book '30 Seconds From Gaza.'
