Mohammad AlFaraj's First Solo Show in France at Mennour
Mohammad AlFaraj, who hails from Al-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia, and was born in 1993, is hosting his first solo exhibition in France at the Mennour gallery. The exhibition is named after his well-received film, 'The Date Fruit of Knowledge,' which gained attention at this year's Lyon Biennale. Created during his 2022 residency in AlUla, this marks his first venture into stop motion animation. The film follows a bulbul bird, made from a date, as it searches for a legendary fruit symbolizing knowledge, leading to an important revelation and a profound loss of memory. Additionally, the show features 'Glimpses of Now,' a project launched in 2015 that consists of daily phone videos exploring the contrast between urban life and nature. AlFaraj also incorporates Saudi soil on sand within the gallery to enhance the interactive visual experience. The AlUla Artist Residency Programme, started in 2021, is a collaboration between the Royal Commission for AlUla and the French Agency for AlUla Development.
