Mohamed Almusibli Appointed Director of Kunsthalle Basel Starting March 2024
Mohamed Almusibli will become the new director and chief curator of Kunsthalle Basel on 1 March 2024, succeeding Elena Filipovic. Almusibli currently directs Cherish, an independent Geneva space he cofounded with James Bantone, Thomas Liu Le Lann, and Ser Serpas from their shared living quarters. He also serves as a consultant for Amsterdam's Hartwig Art Foundation. In a press release, Almusibli expressed honor at joining an institution known for artistic innovation and cultural discourse, noting his predecessor's impactful leadership shaped its distinguished profile. Filipovic departed to lead Kunstmuseum Basel, the largest museum in the Swiss city. Almusibli aims to sustain Kunsthalle Basel's tradition of excellence and commitment to contemporary art as a space for groundbreaking exhibitions, collaborating with its team, board, and the wider art community while prioritizing artists' visions.
