Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim to Represent UAE at 2022 Venice Biennale
At the UAE National Pavilion during the 59th Venice Biennale, from April 23 to November 27, 2022, Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim will showcase 'Between Sunrise and Sunset.' This installation includes abstract sculptures that are life-sized and draw inspiration from the mountainous terrain of Khor Fakkan, Sharjah. Curator Maya Allison emphasizes Ibrahim's deep connection to his surroundings, with support from the UAE Ministry of Culture and a commission by the Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation. As a groundbreaking experimental artist, he was part of an avant-garde collective established in the early 1980s alongside Hassan Sharif and others. His art is featured in prominent institutions, including the British Museum, and he previously participated in the 2016 Kochi-Muziris Biennale.
