Modigliani's only self-portrait on show in Florence

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The exhibition 'Ritorni. Da Modigliani a Morandi' at Museo Novecento in Florence reunites works from the Alberto Della Ragione collection, including the only self-portrait by Amedeo Modigliani (1919). Curated by director Sergio Risaliti with Eva Francioli and Chiara Toti, the show marks the museum's tenth anniversary and traces the collector's journey from his 1931 visit to the I Quadriennale di Roma to the donation of 241 works to Florence in 1969. Highlights include Ardengo Soffici's 'Natura morta con ventaglio' (1915), Carlo Carrà's 'La camera incantata' (1917), and Giorgio Morandi's 'Natura morta con squadra' (1917). The exhibition also features works by Ottone Rosai, Scipione, and Renato Guttuso, and documents Della Ragione's acquisition of the Broglio collection (1937-1939) and his 1941 first prize at the Mostra delle collezioni d'arte contemporanea in Cortina d'Ampezzo.
